Due to its strategic location, Naarden was designed as a fortress with double city walls, a moat, bastions, city gate and dozens of buildings as weapons storage depots and soldiers' quarters. It is part of the Dutch Waterline. The fortified town of Naarden has been beautifully restored and is full of special monuments. It is well worth a visit!
